  1. I found this chapter to be short and sad. I did not enjoy reading it at all because the only events that took place were Katy talking about Paul and what happened to him. It seems as if he followed his parents’ wishes and went to study law at Princeton and also fathered a child. However he then signed up for the U.S Marines and quit law school at Princeton. The worst part was finding out that he died in battle fifty miles from Paris. I also didn’t find it surprising to find out that Katy and Austin developed something more than just friendship.

  2. Paul sometimes to visited his family at the place where he had grown up and he went to Princeton as his parents wanted. When Paul was twenty-three, there was a war raging in Europe, so Paul left the law school to enlisted to the U.S. Marines. On June 5, 1918, Paul died in the battle called Belleau Wood. Austin and Katy spent their childhood together and they were in teens and their relationship turned into more than childhood friendship. Also, Laura Paisley could run to chase the puppy.

  3. This chapter was kind of interesting to me. Paul’s parents were very upset and sad because they really wanted Paul to become a lawyer. But I was surprised when Paul chooses to go to the U.S marine and went to the war. And I feel so sad when Paul died in battle because he was still young and strong man. It seems he lived his own life for his parents. It was really interesting when I read about Austin and Katy because they start to have some strange feeling to each other and I think that’s something more than a friend.

  4. Paul bishop was enlisted in the marines after he was done with college, he was enlisted in the marines because there was a war going on in Europe, and Paul Bishop died during the war. I Kilroy Fitial would never go into a gun war because I don’t want to die by gun or during a fight I want to die peacefully not fatally and I hate violence, violence is nothing! Its not going to do us any good after winning a fight of loosing a fight of course you can gain respect that way but you wont get much respect as much as now.

  5. Chapter seventeen was preety sad for me. The part i found interesting about was when i read that paul had been studying at princeton just liek his parents wanted, fathered a child as wll, but did not success at any of that. He later joined the marines and was sent to Paris. I thought that was the wrong decision to make, marines over college. I thought it was sad how he died couple miles away from france. R.I.P. Paul & his child..This chapter was preety short too, not much to talk about.

  6. Chapter 17 – Paul, After
It’s really sad that Paul died, and especially in the picture shown the mother didn’t even hug him goodbye. They barely touched and I bet the mother totally regretted that she didn’t. Just this one story brings tears to my eyes. Man, oh boy, he left Princeton to go engage in war. He could’ve still been alive. I wonder how Austin felt, and how did the family dealt with the pain. Although I’ve been through that it just makes me curious how other families also deal with it. Death sometimes comes when we least expect it and it’s just God’s way of telling us it’s time to go.

  7. This book, THE SILENT BOY, was a sad but pleasing novel. Although I read it over a period of two weeks,(research project going on), I enjoyed it. The sad part though was that it really didn't have a good ending. It left a lot of my questions unanswered, and my mind unsatisfyed. I think perhaps this novel is something you should read, but I'm not saying it's fantasic. I'd much rather read THE GIVER over this, and THE SILENT BOY is not on my own, personal, MUST read list.
