Chapter 2 - Silent Boy
Please post your comments on chapter 2 of the Silent Boy here.
I liked chapter two a lot, especially when Katy followed her father to go pick up their new hired girl. I liked it because Katy didn’t look down on Peggy just because she was less fortunate than she. So far Katy is my favorite character in the story. Because even though Peggy is from a poor family, she doesn’t loot at Peggy any differently. Actually I thought it was really cute how Katy followed her mother around while she showed Peggy the house, because she didn’t want to be left out. It was interesting how Katy had decided that she liked Peggy from the very moment they say side by side in the buggy.
I like this chapter, because it reminds me that how wonderful and beautiful the old memories are. When I was six, I could not read and write like as Katy and I always messed up and broke the things. However, Katy envys her friend Austin, because he could read books and explain. Also, Austin has a beautiful baby sister. Austin's mother had found the baby in the garden and everyone loved her. It sounded weird that a baby had found in the garden, but I like it, because it is unexpected.
Chapter 2 Katy and her father went into the country to pick up a girl that was hired by Katy’s parents, these girl’s name is Peggy Stoltz, she was an adult but not a old adult she was like in her early twenty’s maybe. When they finally got to the stoltz residents somewhere in the country which was so difficult to find because almost all the neighborhood were stoltz,. While they were waiting for Peggy katy saw someone in the barn house window, it was a little boy peggy’s little brother his name is Jacob Stoltz. I myself would actually love to go into the country side riding on horses because I’ve never rode a horse before, I would love to experience it when ever I have the time to go riding horses around..
This chapter was interesting because Katy and her father went to bring Peggy for a new hire girl and Katy seems excited. I was surprised because Peggy was poor girl but Katy treats her like a family. I felt so bad when I find out that Peggy’s brother Jacob was touched in the head. I think Katy is really wondered about Jacob even when she came back to house. When they came back to the house, Katy was so excited and she looked really happy. And even Peggy’s sister Nell lived next door in the Mr. Bishop’s house, so I think this story will be more interesting and funny.
CHapter two was a really interesting chapter for me. I liked the part where KAty followed her father to pick up the new hired girl Peggy. I think KAty is a really nice girl with a really nice heart. I like the fact that KAty never underestimated Peggy even though she was a low class. I also liked the part where she introduced the dog. It was funny how they said it. I like how KAty acts towards Peggy and the fact that she liked her ever since the beginning when they were together in the buggy.
This chapter only talks about her birthday. In this chapter she introduces Austin Bishop and Paul Bishop. They are her next door friends or at least only Austin is her friend because Paul is too big to be her friend. Jessie Wood was one of her friends too but I really dislike her because I think she’s a naughty kid. She always put Katy in big trouble and also Austin. Katy is now my favorite character because she so open and that’s what I like. She mentions that she and Austin would get married when they grow up. I think that’s very nice and funny for a young girl like Katy to mention.
Just the date itself on this chapter amazed me. The author, if still alive is about 99 years old. They seem pretty rich, considering the father is a doctor! Not just that, but also hired a girl, as a house helper I guess. I feel sorry for Peggy though, as leaving education to earn money for a family would be a hard decision for me. I would pursue my education at least to learn and work too on the side. It’s very unfortunate though that Peggy has never owned a book, and Kate seems to be really interested in books. Peggy’s sister also is a hired girl, and helps Mr. & Ms. Bishop. I would feel comfortable too if I had an older sister just right next door. Another curious character in this book is Jacob, Peggy’s brother, who they say is “touched.” I guess it’s another word for “slow.” Still not really into the book, but I must keep reading to blog.
