Saipan Southern High School book club members and other island teens discuss their books of interest by writing their thoughts about the book choice of the month.
Chapter three was not at all what I expected. In fact I thought the chapter was really interesting especially the part when Katy and her father were on their way to the flour mill where her father was to removes stitches from one of the helpers who got his hand cut badly by machinery. I did not at all expect Peggy’s brother Jacob to be standing by the road agreeing to accompany them. Mostly that this wasn’t the first time he had accompany Katy’s father. I like Jacob because he seems really quiet but looks to have a fondness for animals. I thought Katy’s father was a very generous man by offering him a ride home and giving him a sack of flour.
Kate follows her father to diagnose one's injury even with Jacob. Jacob is a touched boy who is brother of Peggy. Peggy is a hired girl who works at Katy's house. During the time that Katy stays with Jacob, she thinks she would know little about touched head means, because Jacob never say a proper word instead making an weird sound. Katy gets more interest of Jacob, because she thinks that she could be a friend of him. I think Jacob is so sophisticated and kind, because he loves grindstone and animals. In my thought, Jacob knows about the animal much more than anyone.
Chapter 3 Henry Thatcher katy’s father were off to do some doctors work in the mill factory, as they were making there way to the mill factory they found Jacob standing next to the road which was far from his house it was like four miles back home for Jacob. Henry katy’s father asked Jacob if wanted to follow them to the mill factory Jacob didn’t say anything because Jacob didn’t know how to talk or lets say he cant speak at all they took him with them because they didn’t want Jacob running home by himself when its almost dark, I would actually pick somebody up to if they really needed the ride, if I was waking on the road and my destination is far I don’t mind if someone stop to give me a ride to point B.
Chapter three is mostly about Jacob Stoltz. Katy and her father were going toward the flour mill because one of the helper had cut his hand badly on the machinery. And Jacob was standing beside the road so Mr. Thatcher decides to give him a ride. I think Katy was jealous when her father told her that he took Jacob to the mill before. I think she really loves her father and she doesn’t like to be left out. But I think she became really quiet and serious when her father was treating an injury. Mr. Thatcher looks really kindhearted person because he told Katy that Jacob is just little different, but not an imbecile.
Chaoter three was really interesting, i really enjoyed reading this chapter. I like hte part where Katy and her father where on their way to the flour mill when they saw Jacob standing near the road, and JAcob decided to follow them. I learned that while KAty is at school Jacob hangs around with KAty's father. I thought one part was crazy when Katy's father was taking stitches off one of the workers and Katy was counting while the stitches where slowly coming off his palm, she ended at the count of sixteen. That must have been painful, I also liked how Katy's father gave Jacob two apples and a sack of flour for his family.Jacob should be greatful.
In this chapter I get to meet a new character. Her name is Peggy Stoltz. The way Katy describe Peggy makes me think she’s a good person. Peggy’s mother is a good woman but sometime it makes me wonder why she seems to so nerves or something. Katy is a person or a kind of person who wants to know so many things. Once they were heading out from Peggy’s home she saw a boy at the window. So on their way back home she starts asking Peggy about the boy she saw. That boy was Peggy’s brother and Peggy says his touched in the head. That made me think that boy is a lonely boy who have some kind of magic or something. I think Peggy is going to be my second favorite character.
This made up for chapter 1 and 2 to me. Katharine and her father head out to a patient, who needed to get stitches on his hand. As they were traveling on their buggy, they saw Jacob. They brought Jacob with them and as they got down they called Jacob “imbecile.” That was uncalled for, and I wouldn’t say that to a person who has mental problems. It wasn’t anything he did it was just because he was born with it. It isn’t fair I thought to call someone that word unless they are just plain dumb and not mental in the head. The person that said that is probably an imbecile for being such an a-hole. Anyways as they got to the patient at the mill, Jacob seemed to be interested in the mechanics of the mill. Jacob’s interest in machinery and animals are brilliant and he should pursue what he is interested in. Also when Katharine’s father was stitching the man, the man said he wouldn’t have gone, then Katharine’s father fired back saying “You would’ve, your hand would’ve been gone.” That just flipped me out in laughter because he burned him real good.
