  1. I don’t think there is much to talk about in this chapter. The main character Katy Thatcher, who is also the person telling the story was just introducing some of the other characters and whether or not they were invited to her birthday party . However the most interesting event that took place was when Austin Bishop went on a trip with his grandmother to see a museum in Philadelphia and came home to find out he had a new baby sister. It was funny how they told him, that they had found her in the garden. Also when Katy said she hopes the baby’s hair changes because it was so horrid that it looked like her horses manes, I thought it was hilarious.

  2. The beginning of the story that the main character named Katherine is introducing herslef when she was young. Katherine always wanted to be a docter whose father was also a docter too. With the motivation of her father was a docter and she saw and read the big fire at the factory and the wars made her inferred in healing people. At the end of the chapter, she said that she will talk about her friend Austin and Jacob. It will be very interesting.

  3. Chapter 1
Katy Thatcher, she’s saying here that here friend she invited a friend who just lived next door, she invited him to her sixth birthday, these Austin boy who claims and say that he can read which he doesn’t know how because Katy knew Austin was lying all this time. If I was in this situation personally maybe I would ignore Austin for lying to me, never talk to him. Because friends don’t lie to friends, friends are actually suppose to help each other out not lie to each other and get in to a serious fight that will never lead you anywhere in the long run.

  4. This chapter starts with introducing Katy Thatcher and other main characters. This chapter shows Katy’s childhood and I felt that her childhood was peaceful and perfect. She had best friends and a lot of neighbors. I think Katy thinks a lot and a strong girl. Kathy was jealous when Mr. Bishop made a something nice present for his son Austin’s birthday and I guess she was jealous when she heard about Laura Paisley Bishop. And I think that’s the reason why Katy called him a fibber. Chapter one was not really interesting because it doesn’t show any big events but I want to hear more stories about this little girl.

  5. CHpater one wasn't really interesting. The introduction to thi sbook was confusing for me. I really didn't get half oof chapter one, but i thought throughout the ending of this chapter it gave me a boost to keep reading. I like the part where Austin mother said to come home because she got what he always wanted, a baby girl. The reason for that is becasue she said she went out to pick tomatoes and when she looked down she saw a lovely baby girl. I thought that was funny becasue these are stories parents tell their kids at the age ofo six to ten. Overall i'd say chapter one was alright.

  6. This chapter is a good chapter. I enjoy the fact that Katy would tell boys and girls about her life when she was young. I think that Katy is a caring and loving person. Why would I say that? Well, because she told a story about the factory in New York and that factory was on fire and little girls would jump out of the window with their clothes on fire. She also says that people would just stand there and watch in horror. By the way she told that story I could tell that she feels really bad about those young girls. I think this chapter is very nice and touching at the same time.

  7. This book seems pretty mellow and seemed like the settings out in the pastures. Prologue & Chapter 1 introduced me to the girl name Katharine Thatcher a daughter of Henry Thatcher, M.D. The part about war going in Europe, New York factory fire incident, girls jumping out of buildings, reminded me of my history class and clearly remembered those incidents. She’s not one of those girls who thought cuts and burns were yucky, but she saw it as her future career, like the way I think too. Chapter 1 seemed boring as it talks about birthdays, who’s invited, who’s not, etc. It’s funny how when you’re young and you believe ANYTHING what people say. The funny thing in this chapter was she thought baby came from gardens, and she was curious how they live in the winter, in rain, and when it’s hot. It didn’t amuse me at all in this chapter and it made me just not want to read anymore.
