Chapter 19 - City of Ember
How do you feel about the world that you are living in now after reading about it in the perspective of Lina, Doon and Poppy? Do you think the new earth that they live in is any different from what we have now? Is there any moral that you picked up as you are ending the story in the book? What is it?

the world that i am living in now after reading about it in the perspective of Lina,Doon, and Poppy is much bigger, more complicated, but simpler place than the city of Ember. I live with so many different kinds of electronic devices that became familiar with everybody's life. When I open the door in the morning, the Sun and the sky come right through my view..and it is ordinary scene for me and..every one. I think the new earth Doon and Lina found will be same as where I live in now. There will be same trees,people,insects, sun, sky, moon, building, and everything we see every day..
ReplyDeleteI don’t see that much difference between city of Ember and Saipan. Although Saipan is bigger, have light, and have more population. Compare to other countries to Saipan, Saipan is just like a city of Ember. Well, there aren’t no sun in Ember but other than that..I don’t think so. In other countries there are numerous kind of food products, but in Saipan there are limited kinds of food products just like Ember.

I feel very fortunate to live in a world we live in today, because you can always pursue your dreams and goals, but in Ember you can’t really do anything there. I’ am very thankful that we don’t experience the hardships that the people of Ember. The people of Ember and Saipan both experience one thing, and that’s the power outages at least we have a glimpse of how their life is. I do think the new world is probably different; they probably have a healthy environment unlike us we have air pollution, global warming, and war is still going on… The moral I picked up from this story is “Be Grateful for what you have.”

ReplyDeleteI think this chapter is going to be based on them having light in their street or maybe having their power back on and never went off so that’s what I think of the chapter I didn’t read the chapter yet I was thinking of that because of the title
I live my world like earth. I mean I’m living in Saipan. I think Saipan is better then Ember. and they live with different lives because Ember is decrease food and gradually darkness. But I live here is country Saipan have a lot of food and we got generator…so, we have light. But…sometimes power off …sometimes 30mins …sometimes 2hours. But I think that is better than Ember. so, I hope the find more good space and they have many food.

The world that I am living in right now is much better than the city of Ember. Things are much easier here and we don’t really have that much of limited things like they do. The world that we are living on right now is very different from theirs because they are not familiar with the things that we have. The moral that I picked up as I was ending the story is to, “Stop looking at what you don’t have, and start being thankful for what you do have.”

ReplyDeleteIn perspective compared to the world they lived in, the real outside world they lived in now is similar to ours. Now that they are out they don’t need to worry about the generator coming out and living without lights forever. Only difference is that the world they came out from didn’t seem like ours. It doesn’t seem advanced or futuristic. The way they explain it seems like it’s an old fashion place, somewhere in the countryside not in the urban area. I didn’t learn much from it, but it’s just that don’t always believe what other people say. Just because they say its dark out there doesn’t mean that you can’t explore or find another way.

As others have pointed out there's a $1 transaction for any item such as armor, weapons, etc. which is only taken if the item sells. So that's the flat $1 fee for those types of items, and honestly I would personally expect most people to be interested in both selling and buying these types of character improvements.
ReplyDeleteSeparately, there is a 15% transaction fee for any commodities (again, only if they sell), which are items that stack such as gems and gold. We take a percentage due to the way commodity sales work. You can put up 50,000 gold for sale, and because people can buy portions of commodity auctions, one person may buy 10,000, another may buy 30,000 and maybe nobody buys the remaining 10,000. Instead of charging $1 per transaction, which certainly wouldn't be fair to the seller in the case of commodities as they have no control over how many different people may buy from their auction, we go with a percentage. If that original 50,000 goes up for say $5, there would be a $0.45 fee on the 30,000, and a $0.15 fee for the 10,000, totaling a $0.60 fee for the sales that occurred.
