Chapter 17 - Hanging on to Max
Please post your thoughts about the events and characters on chapter 17 of Hanging on to Max here
I think Mitch (Sam’s dad) should let Sam do what he wants to do with his life. If Sam wants to go to college then there shouldn’t be a problem with that, thats like every parents dream for their child. So, Mitch see’s a letter from the College Board and he throws a fit at Sam. Mitch should just accept how Sam wants to live his life and I think it’ll be good for Max if Sam goes to college instead of Sam being a construction worker for the rest of his life. Mitch makes it clear to Sam that he has no option but to stay with the deal that they made. Man, that guy has some issues! I like the way Aunt Jean stood up for Sam which was very brave of her. If Sam wants to go to college he should, he shouldn’t let his dad run his whole life.
Chapter 17 Chapter 17 was interesting as well as chapter 16. These last two chapters just made me even more interested. I really do think that Sam should go to college. But at the same time, after all, he did make a deal with his father about what he was going to do after high school. Which is finish high school and work at a construction job or something like that. And then eventually he’ll pay his dad for whatever he owes his father. And he does owe his father a lot. I want him to go to college but I think it’s best for the both of them that he sticks with the deal that he made with his father. That’s what I think about this chapter.
I felt sorry for Sam when he threw his SAT score paper away into the garage. I wanted him to do what he wants. Because he doesnt have enough money to support his dream and there is Max whom Sam has to take care of, there are not so many choices he has. When his dad yelled at him after receiving the SAT score, I felt bad about the way he discouraged his son although their situation is not good. He could have at least persuade his son who has dream and desire for his life. I thought that there is always a way to achieve our goal if we try hard which means..I hope Sam to keep his hope and dream although the present situation is not for him
It’s good that Sam thinks about college and something else to further his education. Giving up education is ignorant and pursuing what you want and love to do should be what you are persuading to do. I understand Sam’s dad about him working, but there’s always college too. He can work and go to college at the same time too. There are other jobs out there and I’m sure that guy he was going to work for understands what Sam’s going through. I doubt Sam sees himself 10 years from now still working for that highway company. When there are a million other opportunities out there.
In chapter 17, Sam’s dad find out that Sam took the Sat, and he was mad about it. And I think Sam’s dad is weird, there are no reasons to get mad that his son took a SAT. And Sam’s dad wants Sam to work for the construction, which isn’t Sam’s dream. Poor Sam, he couldn’t even do choose a dream and do whatever he wants. And I can’t understand that Sam’s dad doesn’t want Sam to go to a college because of the tuition. They are just worry about the money, but if he goes to college and graduate, he might earn more money than the construction.. I think Sam’s dad doesn’t know Sam’s dream and what he is good at it.
If I were Sam, same to him, I will have no idea, and I don’t know what I think about, what I want, and what I should be to do. Because everything is so mess, even there is no direction, I didn’t experience Sam experience, so, I don’t knows what is that of feeling, but, when I read this chapter, I can felt Sam is tired, and he needs to narrate with feeling, but, nobody, nobody knew what he think about, nobody can help him, my feeling is so bad, even to so sad.
This chapter is about college. Sam’s dad said “how’s he going to go to college?” I think this mean is “Are you go to college Sam?” dad’s ignore Sam. This chapter is about Dad so bed. He support to son because Sam is his son. How about ask go to college? I think Dad’s more support college. But Sam pays for little. Because he has baby so, he have to spend most money to his baby. So, he works hard. Sam’s think about this. Choose carefully Sam. Because one choice is never change our life and Max life.
Chapter17 Well I think this chapter is going to be about um maybe seeing a friend that never seen before or when that friend is flashing back the memory when they doing something well that`s what I think the story going to base on
I think going to college and working things out as they go on, would be the best option for Sam. He does have a child, so it must be really hard. I don’t want him to give his son up or anything. That would be really disappointing and heartbreaking. His dad should let him take the test. Its not harmful, it just helps. He should've atleast checked the score. The dad should actually be happy and proud, instead of being pist off and disappointed. Offcourse breaking a promise is hard to cope with, but its for the better. Maybe things will fall in to place later on in this book, hopefuly.
For me it is better off if sam goes to colleghe because surely he would get a more better job than a construction worker. Being a construction worker is hard and I know because i have a brother thats a construction worker,my dad too.and I see how tired and stressfull they get. Better he just go to college and not continue on with the deal that him and his father have.also college is also for the good life that his baby could possibly have also.
In this chapter I think that Sam’s dad Mitch should let Sam do what he wants to do. If he want to go to college then let him go. I felt sorry for Sam when he threw his SAT score paper away. I also think that Sam’s dad Mitch shouldn’t have shouted at him. Instead of shouting at him he should incourage him.
Chapter 17: I think that Sam and Claire should just date already instead of playing all those games. I think that Sam felt kind of wired when Claire was asking him if Brittany broke up with him. I think all Sam needs is a girlfriend who will always be there for him and someone who helps him not just lets him do it all by himself. I think that Sam’s dad is crazy if he doesn’t want Sam to go to college. I know that it has to do with money and everything, but when Sam succeeds then he will be happier and Sam can just pay him one time not just partial. I know Sam is scared to tell his dad that he does want to go to college.
I think that Sam’s father is being unreasonable. Why couldn’t Sam go to college? Sam going to college would be better for Sam and Max. Sam could get a job that pays a lot after college so Max could have a better life; it’s only four years of college and Sam is smart. Although, Sam did make a deal with his father and he should honor the deal, Sam’s father could at least think about Sam going to college. Sam should further his education for the sake of his son and his future. Sam should do what he wants to do but also take care of his responsibilities.
