Chapter 10 - City of Ember

Why do you think drawing with colored pencils is important for Lina? Do you think her drawings are weird or they are accurate? Why do think she draws that way?

  1. I think it’s important to her because she imagines the other world with so many colors and in her drawings the colors can represent something she knows about, and Lina loves to draw and in Ember you can’t find color pencils anywhere; it’s very rare and expensive. I think her drawings are accurate because when she draws, she draws skyscrapers and in the world we live in today, there are a lot of those in big cities. I’m definite that they’ll find a way out of Ember to a new world, just like Lina’s imagination. I think she draws like that because she knows there’s a way out and it keeps giving her hope rather than concerns.

  2. It’s important to expand her curiosity with things. Especially with a city that is on the brink of destruction. It’s important for people to find out things, and be curious. I guess she likes the colorful better than everyone looking all gray. She draws that way because it isn’t fun, interesting, and boring without color. Her drawings seem very real, and she imagines the real world like we live in now. She is like a blind person, but in this case she can’t see the outside, she’s limited to the inside of Ember. She draws that way to strive her ambition for a way out of Ember, to get out.

  4. I think not important for Lina. That was like important for us. I mean she drew building and building and made many windows and last blue sky ! I think that was mean like we are life. Because we are only looking building and building not looking the sky. So always we are go some where working hard and very tired. So, I think we need to looking sky. Because we are living city so we just feel heavy and annoy or pain. But sky is really no! always blue and not pain not annoy and not feel so heavy. Just feel like good and free. So, I think she want free, like forever….. so…she drawing with colored and blue sky. So I think that picture was have big secret.

  6. I think drawing with colored pencil is important for Lina. By reading this book, I found out that Lina has dreamt about another city with full of curiosity. Whenever she imagined about the Unknown region, she felt unexplainable excitement. She was sure about that the city will be bright and has many buildings. The point with colored pencil is that she drew a BLUE sky. It explained that the city of Ember does not have a Blue sky becasue it is always dark. What Lina fancied was something that is totally opposite with the city of Ember. I think her drawing is accurate. Her depiction really does make sense because IT IS TRUE to us. We live with a BLUE sky and LIGHT. And this is what a real city should be.

  7. I say it is important for Lina to draw with colored pencils, because it sounds like Ember is a city that doesn’t have much different color. Most of the things were rare and expensive too. Also they don’t know how the sky and cloud look like. It is good way to build their imagination by drawing and think about colorful city that they want to live. And I think Lina believes that there is other city other than Ember, drawing the sky blue instead of black. I hope Lina finds a city that she is imagining to live which has many different colors.

  8. Yes, I think drawing with colored pencil is important for Lina, because in the City of Ember always is dark, they don’t have color, so, colorful in that city was so rare, and she never saw other city and what color or thing about other city, so, she just dependency to image. Whatever she drawing is weird or they are accurate, I think, Lina doing so good. And, in her picture, she drawing are accurate, of course, the sky was blue, I don’t know why she want to put it color blue, but, I know, she just image and just follow her feeling.

  9. In my opinion, I think that it is important to Lina to draw with colored pencils because it really shows her imagination and her dreams. I think that she expresses it more on her drawings and in color. I don’t think that her drawings are weird at all. What she draws does exist, but she doesn’t know it. I think that her drawings are accurate because I think that there really is a way out of ember, but they just haven’t found it yet. Once they’ve figured out the message, they’ll get out of ember and live better.

  10. Drawing with COLORED PENCILS is very important to lina because colored pencils at the city of ember was hard to find and buy..Also because she really loves to color and draw and because like city of ember did not look so colorful becasuse it had always been dark there. When she dreamt about that otgher city you could tell that the city she dreamt about was really the opposite of the city of ember because it was fiolled with colors. Specially the blue sjky.. Probably for lina that was new because the only color sky she coul d see was black or dark.

  11. Colored penciles were rare in the city of ember. She probably wants to express a site that she has never seen. A site that she maybe hopes to see one day. The other city she had a dream about really inspired her. It was splashed with colors every where. I can not imagine a place with no colors, that will be absoloutely dull and boring. The sky also captuared her attention, BLUE SKY. Its something she had never saw, due to the blackish sky she sees everyday. Her drawings are accurate, and I think she knows that. Her drawings are probably what she expects to see when she gets out of Ember. I hope she does get to see the kind of world we live in. It will be much more convinient for everyone that was trapped in that [no offence] awful place.
